Symbiotic began as an idea several years ago. I was looking through a catalogue touting its artisanal glass made in a small town in Tuscany. At the time I thought, why can’t a store be created that would offer great products from small town America? Through the years the idea continued to nag at me. I wanted to support great people and products wherever I could find them; products that were made with care and quality and products that were safe for our children. Along the way I thought about environmentaly friendly means of producing goods and decided to support eco-friendly and repurposed item producers. We are also very proud to support a wide variety of “issues” items. We sell greeting cards that support art programs for homeless children and all of our overseas vendors are both fair trade and jobs creating for small communities.
I believe strongly that our purchasing power can make a difference in peoples lives. My guarantee to you is that every product you purchase at Symbiotic will have an impact somewhere: Be it small historic American manufacturing, artisans, charitable concerns or the environment and fair trade. Our relationship with these vendors is truly a symbiotic one and we are pleased to do our part to help change the world.
As part of our mission; our store invites our customers and employees to participate one Saturday a month at a local charitable concern so that we can give back to the community and raise awareness of challenges facing our local community. To the same end, at least 10% of our items in any of our stores will be made in the State in which the store is located.

We like to highlight good people and organizations from time to time here on our site. I recently purchased a bike from a man I had never met online. It turns out he is selling his bike to walk solo across country to raise money for children.
